SAP E-Book

You use this IMG activity to activate storing with bar codes. You need to carry out this step if you want to use storage scenarios with integration of bar code technology. Activation is carried out by business object type.

When an application document is saved during normal operation, the system checks whether bar code entry is activated for the business object type. If it is, a dialog box is displayed for the user to enter the bar code value.

  1. Select the object type for which you want to activate storing with bar codes.
If you want to enter an additional object type, choose Edit -> New entries.
You can make the following specifications:
  • Document type

Activates bar code entry only for this document type.
  • User

Activates bar code entry only for this user.

The more specific setting takes precedence. Example: If you enter object type and agent, the object type has priority.
  1. You have the following options:
    1. Bar code type
You can enter a bar code type. This enables a check of the bar code value entered by the user. (see Check active below). SAP supplies standard bar code types. For information on the bar code types, see the documentation for the IMG activity " Bar code types".
  1. Bar code active (Basic setting)
If you set this flag, bar code entry is activated.
  1. Check active
If you set this flag, a check is activated for the chosen bar code type
This setting is particularly important if you enter the bar code manually (in case of typing errors).
Example:
Object type:,,,,BKPF
Bar code type:,,,,CODE_2_5_I
Bar code check:,,X
Active:,,,,,,X
The system checks that the numerical value of the bar code for object type BKPF entered by the agent corresponds to the bar code type specified. If the bar code does not correspond to the bar code type Interleafed, a message is displayed.
  1. Do not cancel
If you set this flag, the user is forced to enter a bar code value, and does not have the option to cancel processing.
  1. Multiple entry
If you set this flag, a bar code can occur more than once in the table of open bar codes. This is useful, for example, if the incoming document belongs to more than one business object.
  1. Keep R/3 entry
If you set this flag, a bar code entered in the SAP System is not deleted from the open bar codes table after a successful match. It can therefore be assigned more than once.
  1. Keep externally
If you set this flag, a bar code entered in the scan software is not deleted from the open bar codes table after a successful match. It can therefore be assigned more than once.
  1. Workflow Popup
This flag is only important if you have entered a document type for which a storage scenario with integration of SAP Business Workflow is activated. If you set the flag, the dialog box for bar code entry is activated for the document type entered, despite it being a workflow scenario. Normally no bar code is used in a workflow scenario because the application document and document are linked automatically.
