It is possible to maintain more than one version of an address in parallel. In this way, addresses can be stored in the system in different international display formats (such as Kanji or Latin characters).
This is required in form printing in particular, in order to give the address the context-appropriate script.
For example, versions of business partner addresses are maintained on the business partner maintenance screen via the "International address versions" pushbutton ...

For this, the possible display formats must be activated in the system.

  • In a Japanese system, the addresses are normally maintained in Japanese format (Kanji). Additionally, the addresses of overseas business partners (for instance in the USA) are to be entered and printed in the English (international) format.
  • In an American system, all addresses are entered in English format. It should also be possible to additionally maintain and print the addresses of Japanese business partners and subsidiaries in Kanji format, or maintain them mainly in Kanji and additionally in English format.

Different address versions can be maintained if the relevant application uses the dialog functions of the SAP address management component (Business Address Services).

This is particularly the case with master data for business partners (customer, vendor, and so on).

SAP delivers the following version keys:
A Arabic
B Hebrew
C Chinese
D Hindi
G Greek
I International (Latin)
H Hangul (Korean)
K Kanji (Japanese)
M Chinese trad.
N Katakana (Japanese)
R Cyrillic (Russian)
T Thai
Z Kazakh

The version keys are delivered in an inactive state.

Activate the version keys required in your system.
In this activity, activate the version keys across all clients.

If required, you can also activate the version keys for a specific client only.
To do this, leave the enable flag in the cross-client activity as the initial value, and use the subsequent activity "Activate international address versions – client-specific" to activate version keys for individual clients only.

If you want to maintain other versions not predefined by SAP, you can create and activate your own entries in the customer namespace (keys 0–9).

To activate delivered version keys, proceed as follows:

  1. To call the maintenance transaction, click on the "Execute" symbol.
  2. For the versions which are to be used in your system, mark the field as Active.
  3. Save your entries.

To create your own version keys in the customer namespace, proceed as follows:

  1. Call transaction SM30.
  2. Enter V_SAPTSADV as the view name and select Maintain.
  3. Do not change the entries delivered by SAP.
  4. To create new entries, choose New Entries.
  5. Create the desired entries in the customer namespace.
  6. For the versions which are to be used across all clients in your system, mark the field as Active.
  7. Save your entries.

The maintenance function for address versions is generally not intended for simply covering different spellings, for instance a city name in two languages.

Instead, the maintenance function primarily aims to enable different representations in different scripts, such as Latin and Kanji.
