SAP E-Book

Define for combinations of plant/storage location the number range intervals from which a handling unit (HU) identification is obtained if the packaging material type requires Global Transport Label (GTL) numbering.

In this activity, you can assign - according to your organizational structure - the relevant intervals for internal and external number assignment to a combination of plant and storage location. With this assignment you ensure a gap-less HU GTL numbering.

SAP delivers two standard number range intervals, so you do not need to configure intervals in general, but you can add other intervals. In your configuration environment, use the search function to open the following activity: Define Number Range Intervals for GTL.

You can assign specific issuing agency codes (IAC), for example UN, as well as the company identification number (CIN) and an internal / external number range interval per combination of plant and/or storage location.

The following combinations are possible:

Plant Storage Location
X X
X blank
blank X
blank blank

Applications referring to these configuration settings determine the valid entry in the following sequence:

  1. Same plant and storage location
  2. Same storage location (plant blank)
  3. Same plant (storage location blank)
  4. Plant and storage location blank (fallback)
blank

Because the GTL configuration for plant/storage location and for the warehouse can technically use the same combination of IAC and CIN, make sure that the combination IAC and CIN is not used more than once.

In your configuration environment, use the search function to check the following configuration activities:

  • Maintain GTL Generation for Warehouse
  • Maintain GTL Generation for Each Warehouse Number

You have maintained the following entries for a packaging material type in the configuration activity Define Packaging Material Types:

  • Number assignment type for GTL
  • Internal number range interval (mandatory)
  • External number range interval (optional)
blank blank

The following setting options are available:

  • Plant(optional)
Key that identifies a plant uniquely.
  • Storage Location (optional)
Number of the storage location in which the material is stored. There can be one or more storage locations within a plant.
  • Sequence Number(mandatory)
You can assign a sequence number to entries with the same combination of plant and storage location. This is useful as you can create two entries (sequence number 0 and 1) for the same combination of plant and storage location in case the number range of the first entry is used up during the year (expected time period in the standard system in which no GTL is to be repeated). If this happens, the system sets the Do not Use indicator automatically and uses the next number range with sequence number 1. After one year you can then manually remove the Do not Use indicator to use the number range of the entry with sequence number 0 again.
  • Issuing Agency Code (IAC) (mandatory)
A code (3 alphanumeric digits) that designates the registration (or controlling) authority for the enterprise identifier.
  • Company Identification Number (CIN)(mandatory)
A code (9 numeric digits) that is unique and assigned to every company.
  • Number Range Object(mandatory)
either standard Number Range Object (HU_GTL) or another with length 9 and no sub objects.
  • Internal Interval(optional)
Number range interval that is used by internal number range assignment to determine the handling unit identification (based on the Number Range Object for GTL).
You can select an internal number range interval that is used by internal number range assignment to determine the handling unit identification.
  • External Interval(optional)
Number range interval used to check the externally-issued identification of a handling unit (based on the Number Range Object for GTL or other Number Range Objects).
You can select an external number range interval that is used to check the externally-issued identification of a handling unit.
  • Do not use(checkbox)
Indicator that controls if this this setting should be used or not.
