Define how to generate serial shipping container codes (SSCCs) for your plants and storage locations.

You can define an SSCC using a basis number of an International Location Number (ILN) and a number from the number range assigned. The basis number of ILN must be 8 characters long.

Note that if your SSCC does not begin with the basis number of ILN, the system assigns the first number of the internal number interval as first number of the SSCC. Therefore, make sure that the first number of the internal number range is not zero.

If your entire organization does not create more than 1,000 billion handling units per year, you only need one ILN from which to copy the 8-digit basis number of an ILN into an entry (by leaving all key fields blank: plant and storage location, for example).

If you would also like to send smaller packages and manage them with SSCCs as well, you would need more than 1,000 billion SSCCs per year. In this case, you can add another base number to the same organizational unit and number the base numbers in ascending order. Or you can enter separate base units for specific plants and storage locations.

You have created a number range for internal number assignment. If you want to assign SSCCs externally and you want the system to check if they lie within the valid range, you must also create a number range for external number assignment.

For each plant and storage location, make the following settings:

  • Select whether SSCCs begin with the basis number of an ILN.
You can assign multiple ILN base numbers to one organizational unit by numbering the ILN base numbers. If the first base number is used up, the system automatically takes the next base number in ascending order.
  • Specify the basis number of the ILN. You can add prefixes or suffixes to the ILN.
  • Assign the relevant number ranges for internal number assignment.
  • You can deactivate the use of an ILN number choosing Not Active.
If all numbers of a number range with an internal number assignment are used, the system automatically selects the Not Activecheckbox and begins to use the next ILNs. You can deselect this checkbox to use the basis number again.
