This transaction is needed to enable the determination of the required minimum distribution for a beneficiary of a retirement plan. The required minimum distribution for each year can be found by dividing the IRA account balance as of the close of business on December 31 of the preceding year, by the applicable life expectancy. (source: IRS publication 590). The life expectancy of a beneficiary is age dependent. This transaction is used to maintain the life expectancy vs age. The life expectancy vs age can be found in IRS publication 590.
