In this section you define the structure of the bar code types. An introductory application identifier (AI) describes the type and the structure of the following data: storage unit, material, storage bin, quantity, delivery number, MS area, shipment number, wave number, handling unit number.

In the first step, define the name of the bar code type and the following general parameters for each application identifier.

  • Minimum and maximum length: determines the length of the AI.
  • Prefix: Identifies first part of an AI in the bar code string by an introductory character string.
  • Delimiter: If the specific data field that is attached to the AI has a variable length, it must be closed by a delimiter.

In the second step, define the individual AIs for a bar code type. For this purpose, select the required line in the right-hand part of the screen, and choose "Application Identifier" in the dialog structure overview tree by double-clicking on it.

Certain AIs are made up of several application values. This combination is achieved by a sub-field different from 0. The value of the sub-field determines the position in the total value of the AI.

With the help of other attributes, you determine the format of the AI:

  • AI type: defines the barcode type.
  • AI: defines the type of the specified data fields (for example, storage unit) and their length.
  • AI part: Use partial fields of an AI to combine several values into one AI (ascending).
  • Description: defines a bar code type and AI.
  • Define: for usable/used AIs set the indicator "defined".
  • Application: describes how the AI is used, for example, for a storage unit or a material.
  • AI length: defines the fixed or maximum length of the specified data fields.
  • Delimiter: determines the end of field with variable length.
  • Application: describes how the AI is used, for example, for a storage unit or an old material number.
  • Formatting: determines which symbols are allowed (for example, numeric, alphanumeric)
  • Even-number length: Indicator for even-number length of the AI.
  • Decimal places: defines the number of characters that are attached to the AI to define the decimal places of the value in question.
  • Variable length: determines the number of characters that are attached to the AI to describe the length of the value.
  • Multiplier: value that is multiplied by the variable length.
  • Addition factor: value that is added.

To determine the actual length, the attached number is multiplied by the multiplier and then added to the addition factor. Example: AI "234" defines with values "1/2/1" with variable length/multiplier/addition factor a length for this value of 4 * 2 + 1 = 9.

  • Quantity variable: This indicator defines that an AI is used in handling units with variable quantities to specify the quantity.
  • ISO code unit of measurement: unit according to ISO norm.
  • Check: defines various check routines.
