The Production Planning component (PP SFC component) can carry out material staging for production in production storage bins using the Warehouse Management system

The physical production storage bins are defined and managed in the Warehouse Management system. In this case, you can group together different work centers to production supply areas from the viewpoint of production supply.

Within a plant, you define for each material and supply area in which storage bin the required materials are to be provided and which type of material staging is to be used.

The following staging types (control cycles) are supported:

  • Picking directly for the production order
  • Crate parts
  • Release order parts
  • Manual staging

The material requisition creates a transfer requirement or a delivery, which usually results in transfer orders.

Implementation of the PP SFC component.

In the SAP standard system, storage type 100 and replenishment movement type 319 are preset in warehouse number 001.

Set the necessary parameters for the PP interface in the specified sequence:

  1. Maintain production supply area
In a plant, you define the material staging type and bin coordinate of the production storage bin for each supply area and material. For the supply of material to production by means of MM-WM, you can group together different work centers from the production supply viewpoint using the supply area.
For WM material staging, allocate the (WM-managed) storage location to the plant in question.
  1. Automatic WM material staging during order release
At the production scheduler level, you can determine for a combination of plant and order type whether WM material staging is to be carried out automatically during the release or whether this always has to be started manually.
  1. WM movement type for replenishment
For a storage type, you determine which WM movement type is used to transfer the warehouse replenishment for production.
Allocate the respective WM movement type to your production storage type. You can also specify the replensihment logic and the mail control for errors that might occur during automatic staging.
  1. Type of picking requirement ("Define Control - General")
For each WIP and staging indicator, you specify whether the picking requirement is created as a transfer requirement or a delivery. If you choose delivery creation here, you need to enter the delivery type and the goods recipient. In the SAP standard system, there is a default delivery type "WMPP" for this.
  1. Activating the PP or PP-PI interface
For each warehouse number, you determine whether a direct supply of material to production through Warehouse Management is active or not.
Activate the interface for each warehouse number
  1. Warehouse Management view - Warehouse number
For the warehouse number, you specify whether the WM-PP interface is active. For the warehouse number where production staging is to take
place, set the indicator to 'active'. You also have the option of controlling whether a complete staging is performed, and whether the batches determined in WM are reported back to PP/PI.

If you are using the automatic creation of transfer orders following the generation of transfer requirements, refer to the chapter "Activate Automatic TO Creation" for more information.
