SAP E-Book

In this section, you find information about which configuration steps are necessary to register an ABAP system (or the AS ABAP of a double-stack system) via a CCMS agent SAPCCM4X in the central monitoring system (CEN). This step is necessary only for monitored ABAP systems up to Release SAP NetWeaver 7.0.

From SAP NetWeaver 7.1, all functions of these agents are integrated in the SAP NetWeaver management agents, which means that the CCMS agents no longer exist as independent executables from this Release. As regards central monitoring, the CCMS agents differ from the SAP NetWeaver management agents mainly in their different concepts for registering in the CEN: CCMS agents are registered on the monitored host in the CEN. This is normally script-driven at the prompt or is done manually. The agent is started only when it is registered. SAP NetWeaver management agents are installed when the component is installed and always run on the respective hosts. They have Web Service interfaces: for registration in the CEN they are called from the CEN. This means the user starts registration from the CEN and not on the monitored component.

SAP recommends that you always use the most up-to-date version of your CCMS agent SAPCCM4X possible. You can check the version using the command sapccms4x –v. Read the Notes 809007, 914721, and 1013331 for changes in the agents and download a new agent if these changes are relevant for you and your agent does not yet have these new features.

You will find details on how to download agents in SAP Help Portal under SAP NetWeaver → SAP NetWeaver by Key Capability → Solution Life Cycle Management by Key Capability → Solution Monitoring → Monitoring in the CCMS → CCMS Agents → Installing/Registering the CCMS Agents for Experts → Downloading CCMS Agents.

You have entered the ABAP system that you want to monitor centrally as a monitored system in the CEN (see Create RFC Connection to Monitored ABAP System).

Registration

  1. Log on as adm (UNIX) or SAPService (Windows) on the host of the ABAP instance to ensure that the agent can access the shared memory.
  2. Copy the start file CSMCONF that you have already created (see Create Start File CSMCONF for CCMS Agent) to the working directory of the SAPCCM4X. The working directory is located in the following place:
  • Windows:,,[drive]:\usr\sap\\\log\sapccm4x

  • Unix:,,/usr/sap///log/sapccm4x

If the directory does not exist, create it.
  1. The executable SAPCCM4X is in the following directory, depending on the platform and the release of the instance:
Platform and Release Directory
Windows, NW 2004 / Upgrade to NW 7.0 [drive]:\usr\sap\\SYS\exe\run
Windows, NW 7.0 [drive]:\usr\sap\\SYS\exe\\
Unix, NW 2004 / Upgrade to NW 7.0 /usr/sap//SYS/exe/run
Unix, NW 7.0 /usr/sap//SYS/exe//

stands for Unicode or non-Unicode.
  1. In the directory for the executable, enter the command sapccm4x –R pf= where specifies the start profile of the monitored instance. By default, this is:
  • Windows:,,[drive]:\usr\sap\\SYS\profile\__

  • Unix:,,/usr/sap//SYS/profile/__

  1. During the course of registration, the details from the CSMCONF file are displayed for you to confirm. Confirm the details by pressing the ENTER button twice. You only need to enter two parameters yourself:
  • The password for the administration user in the CEN under which you created the file CSMCONF

  • The password for the user CSMREG

Note: Under Unix you have to make sure yourself that SAPCCM4X is restarted automatically when the host is restarted. For this, enter the following command in the inittab (/etc/inittab):
/usr/sap//SYS/exe/run/sapccm4x -DCCMS pf=

Check Registration

  1. To check whether the agent was registered successfully on the CEN, call the transaction RZ21 in the CEN, set the Agents for Remote Systems radio button and choose Display Overview. In the list, the name of the agent you just registered is in the SAPCCM4X.. row.
