In this activity, you specify how the depreciation terms for a depreciation area are adopted from another depreciation area. You can specify if the adoption of values is optional or mandatory. If you specify an optional transfer, then you can change the proposed depreciation terms in the dependent areas in the asset master record. In the case of a mandatory transfer, you cannot maintain any depreciation terms in the asset master record. In this way, you can ensure that depreciation is uniform in certain depreciation areas.

Example:
Depreciation areas which should show the local asset valuation in a foreign currency must be defined so that depreciation is the same as in the book depreciation area, the only difference being the currency.

Keep in mind the following points for the adoption of depreciation terms:

  • It is only possible to adopt depreciation terms from depreciation areas that have the same ledger group.
  • For those depreciation areas that post their APC to general ledger accounting in real time (that is, for which you have set the Area Posts in Realtime or Area Posts APC Immediately, Depreciation Periodically indicator in Customizing for Asset Accounting (New) under Define Depreciation Areas), the following applies:
  • Depreciation areas that manage APC are never allowed to adopt depreciation terms from another depreciation area. (In that case, enter 00 as the key for the depreciation area.)

  • The other depreciation areas that post in real time (such as areas for investment support or revaluation) are allowed to adopt depreciation terms from another area, as long as both areas have the same ledger group.

  • It makes no difference if the depreciation area adopts depreciation terms from an area that has a key that is greater or smaller than its own key.

You have created at least one chart of depreciation of your own in Customizing for Asset Accounting under Copy Reference Chart of Depreciation/Depreciation Areas.

Proceed as follows:

  1. Specify the depreciation area from which the depreciation terms should be adopted by the dependent depreciation areas.
  2. Use the Identical indicator to specify whether this transfer is mandatory or optional.
  3. Save your entries.
