In this activity, you specify which depreciation area you want to use for updating quantities. This setting is especially relevant if you are using collective low-value assets.

The quantities in the asset master record are only updated if postings are made to the area specified here.

The prerequisites specified in the documentation for the activity Prepare New Asset Accounting are met.

For the purpose of compatibility with earlier versions of Asset Accounting, the system uses depreciation area 01 for updating quantities unless you have configured different settings.

If you change the depreciation area used for quantity update, the quantity information in the asset master records is not changed. Asset subledger posting documents to which postings were made before the conversion keep their quantity information and the quantity is reflected in the asset master record. When such a document that was posted before the conversion is reversed, the quantity is also adjusted regardless of whether postings are made to the depreciation area that is now being used for quantity update.

Also note that any quantity adjustments made in the asset master record by means of a report can only include the quantity in the header of the asset subledger document and that the configuration specified here cannot be evaluated. If you are unsure of how to proceed, we recommend that you adjust the quantity information by maintaining the asset master record (transaction AS02).

You change the depreciation area for quantity update from depreciation area 01 (previous standard setting) to depreciation area 31. Documents that were previously posted to with depreciation area 01 explain the quantity information in the master record. After the conversion in the system, further quantity changes are explained using depreciation area 31.

If you subsequently reverse a document for depreciation area 01 that was posted before the conversion, the quantity is adjusted as specified in the header of the subledger document. If you post to a document restricted to depreciation area 01 after the conversion, and the document has a quantity, the system issues a message that the quantity is not updated due to the configuration. If you post a document restricted to depreciation area 31 and the asset master record contains a quantity unit, the system issues a warning if you have not specified a quantity for the posting.
