Using Embedded Search requires that Talent Management has modeled its own search models (Embedded Search Templates) that define the data that can be used in Talent Management searches.

Any number of search requests that usefully restrict the total amount of data for certain searches can be modeled for each search model.

In a further step, you can define search configurations for these search requests. For all fields of a search request, these search configurations define whether the fields are to be used in the search template or the search results.

Depending on whether you make changes to the standard Talent Management search models or model your own search models in Embedded Search modeling, you must perform different Customizing activities for the search. The following shows which activities are necessary in which case:

  • Mandatory Settings
If you want to use the standard search models, you first need to make the necessary technical settings for extracting data and indexing in TREX for all search models.
For this, you have the Customizing activity Define Search Contexts available, which provides you with simple access to the Embedded Search administration cockpit.
  • Optional Settings
You only need to make the following settings if you have specific requirements for the search:

  • If you have enhanced SAP standard models with your own nodes, you must first communicate these nodes to the search requests of the search model and make the necessary Customizing settings for processing in Talent Management.

For this, you have the Customizing activity Define Search Requests and Search Field Names available.
  • If you have created your own search model, you must first communicate this to Talent Management.

For this, you have the Customizing activity Define Search Models and Change Pointer available.
  • If you want to use your own labels for standard search fields of standard search requests, you can copy and modify standard search fields accordingly. For this, you have the Customizing activity Define Search Requests and Search Field Names available.

In a further step, you must ensure that you include these customer search field names in your search configurations by exchanging them with the previous standard search field names. If you have not activated the enhanced user interface for the search, use the Customizing activity Define Search Configurations to do so. If you have activated the enhanced user interface for the search, use the Customizing activity Define Search Configurations for Enhanced User Interface.
Note
Since the search runs largely in the background, the system writes notifications to the application log if problems arise. For example, incorrect Customizing settings could result in an error. Therefore, if the search does not function as expected, evaluate the application log (transaction SLG1). Make the following entries:
  • Object: HRTMC
  • Subobject: SEARCH
