In this Customizing activity, you can activate the delta costing in the Product Design Cost Estimate (PDCE). You have the option of using the delta costing for the previous costing function, if you do not want to change the costing structure at all or else with only minor changes.

The delta costing cannot completely replace other cost accounting functions. The following restrictions apply:

  • If the changes you have made make a complete cost estimate from the highest structure level necessary, or too many changes have to be recorded, you may find the previous costing function is the quicker calculation variant. When you calculate using the delta costing, additional execution time is continually added to the existing save and costing functions, in order to be able to record, analyze and store the corresponding changes.
  • The following changes cannot be determined or recorded by the system:
  • Changes to the exchange rates used

  • Changes to rules or rates for overhead calculations used

  • Value changes in excel files that are read by calculation formulas

  • Changes to the attribute values of info objects that are read by calculation formulas

  • The following formula enhancements may result in an incorrect result for the delta costing:
  • The calculation sequence of the standard cost estimate is not taken into account. From the point of view of the structure hierarchy, the delta costing is started in descending order, but continued with the quantity-based changes in ascending order. Subsequently, the calculation with the changes to the amount values is likewise made in ascending order. Value changes, for quantities or amounts, are defined by the Formulas for Event, Calculation of Quantities or Calculation of Values.

  • The method calls with a changed field value of a different object type. Formulas can be created with user-defined functions. This means a field can also contain the changeable value of a different field with a different object type. However, a change in this field value is not recorded.

Consequently, you are advised to check whether using the delta costing is best for your business scenario in view of the restrictions listed above.

In the standard setting, the delta costing is switched off. If you want to use the delta costing, you have to execute this Customizing activity.

Note that changes that are relevant for the costing cannot be recorded as long as the function has not been switched on. If you change the costing structure, and only after switch on the function, you have to first carry out the entire calculation.

  1. Set the indicator to activate the Delta Costing function.
  2. Choose Execute.

Once you have activated the delta costing, the system executes the following steps:

  • In transaction Product Design Cost Estimate (UAMO), the pushbutton Cost Delta is available.
  • The system records all of the changes relevant for a delta costing within a working environment. The following changes to the costing structure count as relevant:
  • add

  • change

  • delete

When you carry out the delta costing, the entire structure is not recalculated, but only those structure areas of the current working environment that are affected by these changes.
  • The changes recorded are deleted again after the calculation, unless the costing changes have not been transferred completely to the working environment. The remaining changes that have not been transferred can be stored in the data basis during the saving process. Changes that involve several working environments, for example price changes, are likewise saved.
