SAP E-Book

In this Customizing activity, you maintain the hierarchy types for which you want to enable hierarchy creation in Manage Global Hierarchies.

You have created the relevant business entities.

SAP delivers a number of hierarchy types, which you can use as references if you want to create your own hierarchy types.

To create a hierarchy type, take the following steps:

  1. Choose New Entries.
  2. Specify a 4-character ID and a description for the hierarchy type.
Note: For set-based hierarchies, it's recommended that you use the set class ID as a reference.
  1. Enter ID of the relevant business entity, which you created earlier and want to use as the basic hierarchy element.
  2. Select Allow Mixif you want to:
  • Build the hierarchies based on multiple business entities, or

  • Allow adding business entities as hierarchy nodes in addition to free-text nodes.

  1. If Allow Mixis selected, you then need to enter the relevant entities in Entities for Leaves. In case of multiple entities, separate them by a comma (",").
Example: Enter "COSTCENTER,PROFITCENTER" so that both cost center and profit center can be selected when adding leaves to the hierarchies of your hierarchy type.
  1. If Allow Mixis selected, for Entities for Nodes, you can choose to:
  • Leave empty so that business entities are not allowed as hierarchy nodes.

  • Enter one or more business entities (separated by a comma) so that business entities are allowed as hierarchy nodes.

  1. If you have entered any business entities in Entities for Nodesin the previous step and in the meanwhile, you also want to allow free-text hierarchy nodes, select Allow Free-Text Nodes.
  2. Select Allow Duplicate Leavesif you want to allow multiple leaves with the same business entity value in a hierarchy.
  3. Select Allow Duplicate Nodesif you want to allow multiple nodes with the same node ID or same business entity value in a hierarchy.
Note: To allow duplicate leaves/nodes in a hierarchy, you need to additionally implement the BAdI BADI_FINS_UH_RUNTIME_GENERATOR.
Also, be aware that some runtime apps, such as Design Studio or Web Dynpro reports, don't support the display of duplicate leaves or nodes.
  1. Select if the hierarchy type supports time dependency. Time dependency allows creation of multiple hierarchy versions with different validity timeframes under the same hierarchy ID. Each hierarchy version is only valid within the specified timeframe.
  2. Optionally, select Allow Time Overlapsif you want to allow validity timeframe overlaps between hierarchy versions. However, upon activation, the system checks and prevents overlaps between active hierarchy versions.
  3. Select Allow Value Rangeif you want to allow selecting a range of business entity values as leaves in a hierarchy.
Note: If after editing and activating a hierarchy that has included a range of business entities, the value range changes, for example, more business entities are created within the range, these new business entities won't be included automatically in your hierarchy, you would need to re-activate the hierarchy to reflect the value changes. This limitation is not applicable to these business entities: profit center, cost center, and G/L account, though.
  1. Specify the maximum length of hierarchy IDs, which should be no more than 20 characters.
  2. Select Change Log if you want to keep the change history of hierarchies. The change log of each hierarchy can be displayed from within Manage Global Hierarchies.
  3. Select Multiple Languagesif you want to allow maintaining node texts in all supported languages.
  4. Select Enable Private Hierarchyif you want to allow setting hierarchies of this hierarchy type to private hierarchies.
Note: Private hierarchies are only visible to users who switched on Set to Private for these hierarchies.

After transport of the above customizing settings, the hierarchy type is available for creating hierarchies in the Manage Global Hierarchies app.
