Interest rates are used to discount the settlement values of AROs. They are also used to calculate the monthly interest accretion.

In this Customizing activity, you can enter interest rate keys to represent specific sets of interest rates that are used in the valuation of financial obligations, for example, asset retirement obligations (AROs).

For the valuation of an ARO, you must define at least one interest rate key per obligation. To do the valuation of an ARO according to different accounting principles, you can define interest rate keys specific to accounting principles.

To use an interest rate key in the accounting principle-specific valuation of an ARO, you allow its use at the level of individual obligation types in combination with individual company code groups in Customizing for SAP S/4HANA for asset retirement obligation under Basic Settings> Define Obligation Types and Obligation Type Configuration.

When you create an ARO, there is a default setting for the interest rate key for every accounting principle. You can use any of the interest rate keys that you have created in Customizing for which you have allowed its use for the relevant accounting principle. You can also maintain interest rate keys from the SAP Easy Access menu for SAP S/4HANA for asset retirement obligation.

1. Enter a three-character interest rate key and a description.

2. Select your interest rate key and then choose Interest Rates.

3. Choose New Entriesand enter the following:

  • The dates on which interest rates are valid
  • The term to which the interest rate is related
  • Percentage interest rates

4. Save your interest rate key.
