This Customizing activity contains two subtasks:

  • Define Social Media Channel
  • Maintain Channel Search Attributes

In this Customizing activity, you define the social media channel. Each social media channel is assigned a unique identifier. This unique identifier makes it possible to search faster on the social media channel. Under the social media channel we define the possible search attributes for the social media channel. In social media data harvesting the result of the search for a search term can be controlled using the Search field in this Customizing activity.

Activities

To define a new Social Media Channel, proceed as follows:

  1. Choose New Entries.
  2. In the Channel Code field, enter the social media channel code. This is a unique identifier for the social media channel. This is a mandatory field.
  3. In the Channel Description field, enter the channel description. This is a mandatory field.
  4. In the Social Data Requestfield, enter the URL to which the request is sent. This field is optional. You must use the prefix HTTP or HTTPS for the URL.
  5. In the Rule Set Definition field, enter the URL to which the request is sent to change the rule. This field is optional and is not used in case of DataSift . You must use the prefix HTTP or HTTPS for the URL.
  6. In the Posts per Page Count field, enter the post per page count. This field is optional and is not used in case of DataSift. You must enter a positive value.
  7. In the Count of Get Requests field, enter the count of get request. This field is optional and is not used in case of DataSift. You must enter a positive value.
  8. Select the Channel is Active checkbox, if the channel is active. This field is optional.
  9. Select the Reply Is Allowed checkbox, if you can reply to the post. This field is optional and is not used in case of DataSift.
  10. In the Channel Proxy field, enter the network proxy. This field is optional and is not used in case of DataSift.
  11. Choose Save.

Example

For creating a social media channel, enter the social media channel code and channel description. These two fields are mandatory. All other fields are optional.

To create the social media channel, enter the following values in the fields:

  • Channel Code: FB
  • Channel Description: Facebook

Maintain Channel Search Attributes

Prerequisites:

Social media channel must be defined.

Activity

  1. Choose Social Media Channels.
  2. Select an entry from the list of social media channels.
  3. Choose Social Media Channel Search.
  4. Choose New Entries.
  5. Enter Search Parameter to be searched on the social media channel. This is a mandatory field.
  6. Enter the Parameter Description for the search field entered above. This is a mandatory field.
  7. Choose Save.

Example

For the social data channel Facebook, enter the following values in the fields:

  • Search Parameter: Enter the value STREAMHASH.
  • Parameter Description: Enter the description of the search field such as Stream hash.
