This Customizing activity contains four subtasks:
- Define Social Media Channel
- Maintain Channel Search Attributes
- Define Data Providers
- Maintain Permitted Channels for Data Providers
In this Customizing activity, you define the social media channel. Each social media channel is assigned a unique identifier. This unique identifier makes it possible to search faster on the social media channel. In the social media channel node, you define the possible search attributes for the social media channel. In social media data harvesting the result of the search for a search term can be controlled using the Search field in this Customizing activity.
In this activity you also define the social media data provider and its attributes. You use data providers to retrieve data from various social media channels. The data provider ID enables you to uniquely identify each data provider. Under the data provider node, you also define channels permitted for the data provider.
Define Social Media Channel
To define a new social media channel, proceed as follows:
- Choose New Entries.
- In the Channel Code field, enter the social media channel code. This is the unique identifier of the social media channel. This field is mandatory.
- In the Channel Description field, enter the channel description. This is a mandatory field.
- Choose Save.
Example
For creating a social media channel, you must enter the social media channel code and channel description. These fields are mandatory. All other fields are optional.
To create the social media channel, enter the following values in the fields:
- Channel Code - FB
- Channel Description - Facebook
Maintain Channel Search Attributes
Prerequisites
Social Media Channel must be defined.
Activity
- Choose Social Media Channels.
- Select an entry from the list of social media channels.
- Choose Social Media Channel Search.
- Choose New Entries.
- Enter Search parameterto search on social media channel. This is a mandatory field.
- Enter the Parameter Description for the search parameter. This is a mandatory field.
- Chose Save.
Example
For the social data channel, Facebook, enter the following values in the fields:
- Search Parameter - Enter the value STREAMHASH.
- Parameter Description- Enter the description of the search field, such as Stream hash.
Define Data providers
Activities
To define a new data provider, proceed as follows:
- Choose New Entries.
- In the Provider Code field, enter the new social media data provider code. It is the unique identifier of the data provider. This field is mandatory field.
- In the Description field, enter the description of the social media data provider code. This field is mandatory.
- In the Social Data Requestfield, enter the URL to which the request is sent. This field is optional. You must use the prefix HTTP or HTTPS for the URL.
- In the Rule Set Definition field, enter the URL to which we sent the request to change the rule. This field is optional and is not used in case of DataSift. You must use the prefix HTTP or HTTPS for the URL.
- Choose Save.
Example
To define the data provider definition, you can enter the following values in the fields:
- Provider Code: DS
- Description: DataSift
- Social Data Request field: http://stream.datasift.com
- Rule Set Definition field: URL to which the request is sent to change the rule.
Maintain Permitted Channels for Data Providers
To define channels permitted for data provider, proceed as follows:
Prerequisites
- Data provider code and its description should already be entered in the Customizing activity Define Data Providers.
- Social media channel code and its description should already be entered in the Customizing activity Define Social Media Channel.

4.,,Select Channel Code. This is a mandatory field.
5.,,Select Allowed Channel for Query if the channel is allowed for query.
