You can enable the transfer of article master data via IDocs of message type MATMAS in addition to message type ARTMAS and enable the distribution and conversion of this data for the receiving system, that is, in outbound processing.

In general, article master data is distributed by means of Application Link Enabling (ALE) based on ARTMAS IDocs that contain pure article master data. If a receiving system is not able to process ARTMAS IDocs but is able to process MATMAS IDocs, which are used for material master data, the article master data in the sending system needs to be converted so that it can be transferred via an IDoc of standard message type MATMAS or via any customer-specific reduction of this message type. This means that article master data can then be sent to any receiving system that is capable of processing MATMAS IDoc on the inbound side.

The receiving system represented by its logical system definition must be able to process incoming MATMAS IDocs in inbound processing. However, the receiving system does not need to know that the master data that is sent belongs to an article rather than a material.

By default, the distribution of article master data transferred in IDocs of message type MATMAS is not enabled. Even if you have set up a sender-receiver relationship within the ALE distribution model for message type MATMAS or any reduction of it, article master data cannot be transferred to receiving systems; only material master data can be distributed via this connection.

Furthermore, fields and database tables that are specific to articles cannot be transferred in IDocs of message type MATMAS by default.

Conversion of article master data to material master data works only in outbound processing. It is not possible to receive article master data in a MATMAS IDoc; in inbound processing, errors will occur.

You enter the corresponding logical system ID of the system to which you want to transfer article master data and select Use MATMAS to enable the transfer of article master data in IDocs of message type MATMAS and to enable the distribution and conversion of this data for the receiving system.

Note

Any customer-specific fields and database tables that have been added to the article master data to be distributed must be added to the IDocs of message type MATMAS manually if the receiving system needs these additional customer-specific master data attributes.

You want to transfer article master data to a decentralized Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) system that is deployed with SAP S/4HANA. You enter the logical system ID of the EWM system and select Use MATMAS to enable the conversion feature for this logical system. You can then send article master data by using transactions BD10 (initial load) and BD21 (delta load) based on the MATMAS message type.
