In this activity you define family codes, which you can use to help identify the products advertised on your coupons. When a coupon is redeemed, the three-character family code can be used to check whether the coupon is valid for the products being bought.

The family code is chosen according to the selection of products advertised by the coupon. The three characters of the code generally refer to three different levels of a hierarchy used to categorize the individual products. This categorization does not have to match the hierarchies maintained in the product master data.

When a family code from the middle hierarchy level (for example, 220) is used, the coupon is automatically valid for all products on lower levels of the hierarchy (for example, 221, 222). The same principle applies to products on the highest level (for example, 100, 200).

The family code is also assigned a country and a manufacturer code. The product can only be unambiguously identified from the combination of country, family code, and manufacturer code. Correspondingly, two identical family codes, each with a different country assignment or manufacturer code, can refer to two different products.

Prerequisite for the country assignment is that the appropriate country is maintained for the marketing organization under General Data.

  1. Choose New Entries.
  2. Enter a family code.
  3. Assign a country.
  4. Assign a manufacturer code.
  5. Enter a description for your family code.
  6. Save your entries.
