Use

In this Customizing activity, you can assign material group classes to components, external operations, and service operations. Based on the assignments made in this Customizing activity, a value help and validation will then be available in maintenance order processing. This effectively reduces the number of entries in a new search help, making it easier for users to find valid material groups for the relevant maintenance order part.

Material groups relevant for Plant Maintenance must be assigned to classes of class type MGC. Each component, external operation or service operation can have a single material group class assigned to it. This assignment represents either a single class or a set of classes organized into a hierarchy, with the root being the assigned class.

You can also choose the message category, message class, and message number of the message the system will raise if the entered material group does not match the assigned material groups during maintenance order processing.

Requirements

You have activated either business function LOG_EAM_CI_19 or business function LOG_EAM_SIMPLICITY_19.

Activities

  1. As a first step, you must define a new class of class type MGC (Material Group Class Type)in transaction CL01.
  2. Afterwards, you can make both the material group assignments as well as the class hierarchy assignments (using transaction CL24N, for example).
  3. As a final step, you can assign material group classes to components, external operations, and service operations in this Customizing activity.

Example

There are over 500 material groups maintained in the system, but for maintenance work, only 4 material groups can be used for external operations. These 4 material groups can be organized in fitting material group classes and then set up in Customizing in the following way:

You configure a class "PM_EXTERNAL_OPERATION" of class type MGCwith the following assignment hierarchy:

  • SCAFFOLDING_WORK (MGCclass)
  • SC1 (material group)

  • SC2 (material group)

  • WELDING_WORK (MGCclass)
  • WE1 (material group)

  • WE2 (material group)

Also, you configure the following material group assignment in this Customizing activity:

Plant: 0001
Type: PM01
Component Hierarchy: - (default value)
External Operation Hierarchy: PM_EXTERNAL_OPERATION
Service Operation Hierarchy: - (default value)
Cat: W (Warning) (default value)
Message Class: IW (default value)
Msg: 387 (default value)

This configuration will cause the above hierarchy to be shown in the value help, including the four material groups SC1, SC2, WE1, and WE2, in plant 0001 for orders of type PM01for external operations.

If you enter any other material group in the order, the system will raise the warning message IW387.

For the components and the service operations, no additional value help is provided, nor is a material group validation against a material group hierarchy in place.
