In this Customizing activity, you can create your own generic UI object types and change existing ones. The concept of generic UI object types has been introduced to define generic UI objects independently of existing BOL (business object layer) objects.

Generic UI object types are used to define reference design objects. By using reference design objects, you can provide design information in a single place and re-use it is several design objects. Less redundant data is stored and you can make changes more easily.

  • You can change existing UI object types.
The standard generic UI object types are client-independent. Your changes are client-dependent. In this case, the standard settings are overruled.
  • You can create your own generic UI object types.
You create new generic UI object types in your own namespace (X*, Y*, Z*). You can define your own generic UI object types to implement scenarios that use genIL components or BOL objects that you have created. Customizing of your generic UI object types is client-dependent.

Generic UI object types are defined by the following settings:

  • Description
Describes the generic UI object type.
  • GenIL component name
Defines the business scope of the UI object type.
  • BOL object name
Defines the root BOL object. The reference design objects for this generic UI object type use BOL objects that are on a lower hierarchical level as this root object.
