The system uses volume indicators as a measure of activity, such as the amount customer traffic, the number of transactions, or the sales from the units sold. Volume indicators drive workload and can be defined with a granularity of quarter-hourly, half-hourly, hourly, daily or weekly. The granularity is how often values are available for use within the system. You use this activity to define volume indicators.

  1. Choose New Entries to define a new volume indicator definition profile, or select an existing profile to maintain its values.
  2. For a new volume indicator, enter the external key (the unique identifier for the volume indicator) at the Create New Parameter dialog box.
  3. Enter the validity start and end dates. Use the end date 12/31/9999 for an open-ended validity range.
  4. Enter the short description the system uses for display purposes.
  5. Optionally, enter a long description.
  6. Choose the time granularity at which you want to process and display granularity volume data for this volume indicator.
  7. Choose the edit/display characteristics of the volume indicator:
  • Hidden-- Managers cannot view or change this volume indicator through the portal.

  • View-only -- Managers can view this volume indicator data through the portal but cannot change any data.

  • Editable-- Reserved for future use.

  1. Choose Standard Volumefrom the indicator type field help. The other types are typically used in call center scenarios. After you save your entries, you cannot change or edit either the root organization node or the indicator type.
  2. Click the Configuration Parameter tab where you define the forecast requirements for the volume indicator:
  • If you want to set the forecast settings for this indicator, choose Settings. You can then access the forecast characteristics for the volume indicator:

  1. Select the Include in Forecastindicator if you want to include the volume indicator within the forecast, otherwise, the system expects volume indicator values to be entered (the system uses whatever values exist).
  2. Select the Drop Hi/Lo Values indicator if you want the system to not use the highest and lowest historical values when calculating workload for this volume indicator.
  • If you want the activity for volume indicator to be derived from other volume indicators, choose Summed Indicator. You typically use summed indicators to indicate total or department level volumes and forecasts which may impact work in a specific work area and therefore, used in a task.

  1. In the Available Indicators for Summation list, scroll to and choose the volume indicators you want to add together to generate the summed volume.
  2. Click Assignand you see the volume indicator in the Assigned Indicators for Summation list.
Repeat these steps as required. Remove a volume indicator from the Assignedlist choosing it and clicking Unassign.
  1. Optionally, click the Related Indicators tab to add related indicators to the volume indicator. Related Indicators ensure that any adjustments made to one volume indicator are reflected within any defined related indicators. The related indicator values are adjusted by the same percentage as the 'parent' volume indicator.
    1. In the Available Indicatorslist, scroll to and choose the volume indicators you want to add as related indicators.
    2. Click Assignand you see the volume indicator in the Assigned Indicators list.
Repeat these steps as required. Remove a volume indicator from the Assignedlist choosing it and clicking Unassign.
  1. Save your entries.
