Use this activity to define default work rules. Default work rules are displayed when a manager views the Work Ruletab on the Schedule Rulespage accessed for both Schedulesand Employee Maintenance in the manager's portal. You can define multiple sets of default work rules.

You define and maintain three types of work rules in this activity:

  • Standard work rules contained in the folder Define Work Rule Data
  • Period work rules contained in the folder Define Period Rules
  • Rest period work rules contained in the folder Define Rest Period Rules

Default work rules you define in this activity are used within the activity Define Work Rule Template Sets.

  1. Choose New Entries to define a new default work rule definition profile, or select an existing profile to maintain its values.
  2. For new entries, enter the Default Work Rules ID.
  3. Enter the short description the system uses for display purposes.
  4. Optionally, enter a long description.
  5. Choose the default work rules definition and choose Define Default Work Rules Data.
  6. Choose New Entries to define new default work rule data, or select an existing profile to maintain its values.
  7. Click on the folder Define Work Rule Data.
  8. Enter the work rule default values.
  • If the work rule value is numeric, enter the minimum value, maximum value and default value for that work rule; otherwise, leave these fields blank. When you enter minimum and maximum values, the system verifies that any entries made by a manager fit within this range. The default value is displayed when the manager first sees the work rules page.

  • If the work rule value is a checkbox value, choose the True?indicator to define the default value of this work rule as True(checked). When the field is blank and all other default value fields are blank, the system assumes the work rule is a checkbox value with a default value of False(not checked).

  1. You can optionally add times when the work rules are valid for special day-part workrules.
    1. Choose the special day-part work rule data definition and choose Define Default Work Rule Intervals.
    2. Choose New Entries to define new work rule intervals or select an existing profile to maintain its values.
    3. Select the day the on which the rule is valid from input help.
    4. Enter the time of day when the work rule is valid. This time cannot be earlier than the daybreaker.
    5. Enter the time range the work rule is valid based on the relative start time and relative end time. The times are entered in minutes.
  2. Click on the folder Define Period Rules to add period rules to the default work rules. You make the following entries:
    1. Period Rule Value
    2. Minimum Value
    3. Maximum Value
    4. Number of Weeks
    5. Minimum Weeks
    6. Maximum Weeeks

    1. Rest Period
    2. Standard Rest Period Rule
    3. Minimum Rest Period Rule
