Use this activity to define planned cost profiles and cost premiums. These become the cost classes location managers assign to each employee within their location when making them available for scheduling. The system uses this information to estimate the cost of a schedule.

WFM uses planned costs to project the employee expense related to a schedule. Planned costs represent what a company would pay employees to work the scheduled hours. Planned cost information is not associated directly with payroll and is not paid out to the employee.

  1. Choose New Entries to define a new cost profile definition profile, or select an existing profile to maintain its values.
  2. For new entries, enter the Cost Profile ID.
  3. Enter the short description the system uses for display purposes.
  4. Optionally, enter a long description.
  5. Enter the validity start and end dates. Use the end date 12/31/9999 for an open-ended validity range.
  6. Choose the manner in which the employees for this cost profile group are employed from field help. Undefinedis the default value.
  7. As applicable, enter the overtime details. Once an employee for the cost class works the specified number of hours or days set by the threshold, the system multiplies the employee's pay rate by the value in the multiplier field to determine the employee's planned cost for the scheduled overtime. Overtime thresholds are tiered for a day and week. The details are entered as:
    1. Level 1 daily hours and multiplier
    2. Level 2 daily hours and multiplier
    3. Weekly hours and multiplier
    4. Consecutive days number of days threshold and multiplier
  8. Enter the number of hours per day for which an employee can be paid when absent.
  9. Enter the number of days following the employee's start date after which the employee is eligible for the organization's holiday benefit.
  10. Enter the number of days following the employee's start date after which the employee is eligible for the organization's holiday pay premium.
  11. Enter the overtime pay salary threshold for salaried employees. Employees whose salaries are below this threshold might be eligible for overtime pay.
  12. Enter the number of hours worked after which salaried employees might be eligible for overtime pay.
  13. The cost profile can contain one or more cost premiums. Cost premiums define when and how premiums would be paid out to employees. Choose a cost profile and double-click Define Cost Premium.
  14. Choose New Entries to define new cost premiums or select an existing profile to maintain its values.
  15. Enter the validity start and end dates. Use the end date 12/31/9999 for an open-ended validity range.
  16. Choose the start day (the day during the schedule week for which the premium is to be applied) from field help.
  17. Enter the shift start and end times for the day.
When entering the Start Time and End Time, either enter the times directly into the field or choose field help to scroll to the times in the Choose Time dialog box. In the Choose Time dialog box, choose the clock icon to switch your entries between 12-hour format (using amand pm) and 24-hour format. The system displays times only in 24-hour format. You must enter times in multiples of 15 minutes. You enter midnight as 00:00 not 24:00.
  1. Enter the premium rate (the value either added to or used as a multiplier for the employee's planned cost). How the premium rate is used is defined by the premium type.
  2. Choose the currency for the premium field help.
  3. Choose the premium type (how the premium is to be applied to the employee's planned costs) from field help:
  • Additional Amount per Hour --Adds the value in the premium rate to the employee's planned cost per hour.

  • Multiple per Hour --Uses the value in the premium rate as a multiplier for the employee's standard cost per hour.

  • Additional Amount per Day --Adds the value in the premium rate to the employee's planned costs for the day.

  • Undefined --The default displayed until you choose a premium type.

  1. Save your entries.
