Use this activity to define the schedule exceptions and break exceptions that are valid within your implementation. Exceptions occur when the calculated or manually-edited schedule violates employee schedule rules or break rules. Only the schedule exceptions that are enabled in this activity can be displayed by the system.

Schedule Exceptions are calculated when on the Daily, Weekly, and Indivdualschedule pages if you have configured the system to calculate certain exceptions as a background task.

Depending upon your implementation, checking exceptions can take a long time to complete. Because of this, you might not want to enable calculating exceptions every time managers make an edit to a schedule. Additionally, to help improve overall processing time, you can select the processing intensive checks you want to implement as a part of a background task. The following schedule exceptions are considered processing intensive:

32 - Min Hours/Period (Contract Rules)
33 - Max Hours/Period (Contract Rules)
35 - Max Pay/Period (Contract Rules)
54 - Period Rule
55 - Weekly Rest Rule
56 - Special Day Part Definition
57 - Max Num Shifts Day Part
101 - Schedule Over Budget
102 - No Hours Location
103 - No Hours Department
104 - No Hours Work Area
105 - Core Scheduling Requirement Not Met
106 - Qualified Workload Not Met

You must enable one or more of these schedule exceptions and have the Exception field of the Define General Work Rule Settings activity set to Background Taskto allow location managers to launch a background to recalculate schedule exceptions.

  1. Choose New Entries to define a new schedule exceptions definition profile, or select an existing profile to maintain its values.
  2. For new entries, enter the Schedule Exception ID.
  3. Enter the short description the system uses for display purposes.
  4. Optionally, enter a long description.
  5. Choose the schedule exception indicators for all schedule exceptions that are valid for this schedule exception definition.
  6. Save your entries.
