In this IMG activity you define the categories of single time allocations, and determine the required parameters to calculate the time availability of a resource. The time availability of a resource is calculated from the total of all time allocations (for example, Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.). Availability information is projected to a time stream according to a defined strategy.

There are two different types of availabilities. Basic availabilitycan be mapped to the standard working time of a resource. Total availability contains exceptions to the normal working times, such as an individual absence because of vacation or an illness. Basic availability is used in BW or as background information for a planning board. Total availability is used for scheduling demands.

Each time allocation can be of a particular type, such as "WORK" for working time, "ILL" for illness, and so on. You can assign the following attributes to each time allocation type:

  • "Available" or "Not available"
  • A default priority
  • An exception indicator for the time allocation defining that a time allocation of this specific type does not contribute to the basic availability (normal working times)

Consider defining a time allocation type representing sick time. You define a time allocation type "ILL" for the illness absence type. Since a resource is not available when ill, you assign an availability of 0. You then define the default priority of the absence.

You have specified a range of (-64) to 64 for your priorities, where (-64) is the lowest priority and 64 the highest. Since employees are never available when they are ill, you give the time allocation type a priority of 64.

Since ILL should not contribute to the "normal" working times, you mark it as an exceptional time allocation type.

You then enter the short text "ILL", and the long text "Illness."

  1. Define the required time allocation types for your resources.
  2. Create the availability of the resource for each time allocation type: 1 for "Available", 0 for "Not Available."
  3. Define the default priorities of your time allocation types.
  4. Define whether this type is an exceptional type (and therefore should be used for calculating the basic-availability).
  5. Enter an easily identifiable short and long text.
  6. Save your entries.
