You can define business groups containing multiple business steps. Using business groups makes the selection screen more efficient and user-friendly, since this group can limit the number of displayed steps as possible entries. Furthermore, you can use your business terms for the various group descriptions. In essence you are providing a quick, role-based menu for different types of users.

There is an n:m relationship between business groups and steps. You can assign several different steps to one business group. You can also assign one business step to several different groups.

Your trading groups deal with different commodities, some arrive in your warehouses, while others are always dropped shipped directly to the customer. So you might create four groups, a business group for traders dealing with products that are inventoried, and another for drop shipments. The first group would have steps to display processing goods receipts, as well as purchasing and sales orders. Whereas, the second group would not need the step for goods receipts, so it would not display. The additional two groups might be: an accounting business group which would require a billing step; and one for department managers, to approve and release contracts. These additional steps would not display for the trading business groups.

  1. Create a business group using a 4-digit name and description.
  2. Assign previously created TEW steps to the business group. There is no limit to the number of steps you can assign.

It must be stressed that business groups only influence the display of information. They have no effect on the business process itself and are not used in any other customizing table.
