Assortment grades describe the significance of a material for the purposes of Assortment Management per distribution chain, plant and material group.

Examples of assortment grades:

  • blank Maximum assortment
  • 1 Smallest assortment/core assortment
  • 2 Extended core assortment
  • 3 Extended assortment
  • 4 Maximum assortment

Each grade automatically includes any grades of a smaller denomination. Rules which ensure that this is the case are defined in the assortment grade rules step.

1. Defining a material:

  Material   Mat. group     Distr. chain        Assortment grade

  -------------------------------------------------------------
  4711       ABCDE          0001/01             3

2. Defining a plant:

  Plant      Material group         Assortment grade (maximum)

  -------------------------------------------------------------------
  0001       ABCDE                  1 --> Material 4711 not listed
  0002       ABCDE                  4 --> Material 4711 listed

The assortment grades blank and 1 to 4 are available in the standard system.

Define a manageable number of assortment grades. We recommend fewer than ten.

Maintain assortment grades.

Ensure that you define plant material group assignment correctly and completely, including defining the correct assortment grade.

If an assortment grade is not specified this is usually because every material is to be listed in every plant. You can ensure that this is the case by defining the "blank" assortment grade as your maximum assortment.

Before assortment grades can be used, the following must have taken place:

  • Assortment grades must have been created
  • Assortment grade rules must have been maintained
  • Assortment grades must have been preset in plant material group assignment
  • An assortment grade must have been defined during material maintenance
