Postings that are relevant for bollo (stamp tax) are posted using special sales/purchase tax codes.

This procedure applies to Italy only.

The tax codes have tax rate = 0. Therefore, no tax is calculated.

The code pass on tax is set if the business partner has to pay the stamp tax charge himself.

Bollo is posted if the total of the items that are exempt from tax and relevant for bollo exceed a certain amount. Whether it is a debit or credit item is important, and only the absolute amount is decisive. The bollo amount is currently 1.29 Euro.

Various items are relevant for bollo:

  • Items exempt from tax, such as:
  • Cash security deposits

  • Interest

  • Charges for damaged meters

  • Items that are normally subject to tax but are exempt for a certain group of customers

Bollo is never reversed. This means that if you reverse a posting relevant for bollo, the bollo posting itself is not reversed.

In the case of public sector customers, the bollo amount is always paid by the utilities company irrespective of whether it is a debit or credit item. Private customers must pay bollo amounts arising out of receivables.
