In this activity, you define the billing cycles.

A billing cycle defines the dates for billing. There are two kinds of billing cycle:

  • Periodic Billing
The billing cycle is the basis for determining the periodic dates for the end of the billing period.
  • Express Billing
Billing cycles for express billing are special cases. During express billing, the system ignores the period definition of the billing cycle. Only non-periodic billing is allowed for express billing.

Define and process all of the billing cycles needed for active use. The following attributes are mandatory:

  • Name and text of billing cycle

The following attributes are optional:

  • Main billing procedure
Choose a main billing procedure that you created in the Define Billing Procedures activity. Make sure that the setting for express billing is the same in the billing cycle as in the billing procedure.
The main billing procedure assigned to the billing cycle inherits the start date of the billing cycle.
If the assigned main billing procedure consists of a hierarchy of billing procedures, you also have to define the start date for each lower-level billing procedure.
Select the relevant billing cycle and in the menu, choose Billing Procedures for Billing Cycles. Use the input help to determine the lower-level billing procedures. Now enter the start date and time.
Note that billing procedures influence the runtime of the billing program. Complex billing procedures can considerably slow down the runtime.

Periodic Billing

You want billing to take place on a monthly basis, on the last day of the month, starting January 31, 2007.
  • The Express Billing indicator is not set.
  • Start date: 01/31/2007
  • Period Length: 1
  • Period Type: 02 (Month)
For a periodic billing of the relevant billing accounts, this results in a billing period from March 1, 2007 00:00:00 to March 31, 2007 23:59:59.
Therefore, on the one hand the start date specifies the date starting on which the billing cycle can be used. On the other hand it defines until what point in time billing can take place.

Express Billing

Express billing is to be possible as of January 31, 20007:
  • The Express Billing indicator is set.
  • Start date: 01/31/2007
  • Period Length: Indicator not set
  • Period Type: Indicator not set
  • Billing with Billing Procedure:
See the definition of the hierarchy of billing procedures in the activity Define Billing Procedures.
If you want to use the billing procedure BCPROC in billing cycle BC1, you have to define the procedure BCPROC as the main billing procedure for billing cycle BC1.
