SAP E-Book

In this activity, you define the object roles. These are assigned to the business objects.

Customer contacts can be assigned to business objects. The business objects can take various roles in the customer contacts - these are described as object roles below.

For the industry components Public Services, Media, Telecommunication, and Insurance, SAP only delivers the object role DEFAULT. For the industry component Utilities, additional object roles are provided (see example).

In the following example, various roles for the business object Move-in document are reflected for the industry component Utilities.

The business object for the move-in document is MOVEINDOC. This business object can take on various roles in customer contacts.

If a customer phones to complete a contract with a utility company, the clerk creates the business object Move-in document in the customer contact Move-in document created.

If for example, a welcome letter is then created for this customer, the clerk can create a customer contact with the name Move-in - Welcome letter created. In order for the type of move-in document to be clear from the customer contact, the clerk must define the business object Move-in document again. In this case however, the second business object is created in a different object role, since in this second step, the move-in document was changed rather than created.

For both of these cases, SAP provides the following object roles:

  • MOVEINNOTIF Move-in document first notification
  • MOVEINLETTER Move-in document welcome letter

Both object roles refer to the business object MOVEINDOC, but receive different link types:

Examples of link types are:

  • ECHG changed in
  • ECRE created in
  • EDIS displayed in
  • EINI initiated in
  • EPSR predecessor to
  • EREF has a reference to
  • ETCH adjusted in

You make the links between the object roles and contact classes and actions under Define customer contact classes/actions.

You cannot changed the entries delivered. Only use the name ranges X*, Y*, and Z* (customer name range).

Define the additional object roles required in the system.
